This course is designed for advancing the studies and skills gained in the Foot Reflexology Certification Program. The student should have already gained knowledge in basic anatomy and physiology, an understanding of various medical conditions, reflexology theories and concepts and health record taking skills before embarking on the study of Hand Reflexology.

The Professional Hand Reflexology Certification Program is a total of 142 hours: 24 in-class hours (in a format selected by the teacher), 12 hours of a home study program, a 1.5-hour written exam, a practicum of 100 hours (50 treatments), a 2- hour mandatory review and a 1.5-hour practical exam.

THE OBJECTIVES OF THIS EXTENSIVE COURSE ARE FOR STUDENTS TO:

• Learn to map the body to the hand;

• Learn how to stimulate the various reflexes on the hand for a safe, effective therapeutic treatment.

  • Pre - requisites

    Professional Hand Reflexology Registrants must have successfully completed the RAC Core and Foot Reflexology Certification Program.

    Course Hours

    The Professional Hand Reflexology Certification Program is 142 hours: 24 in-class hours (in a format selected by the teacher), 12 hours of a home study program, a 1.5-hour written exam, a practicum of 100 hours (50 treatments), a 2- hour mandatory review and a 1.5-hour practical exam.

    Course Investment

    The course fees (subject to change) are as follows:

    Hand Reflexology Certification Course: $1,295.00 + GST. This includes the course instruction, manual, home study workbook, mandatory course review, one written exam and one practical exam, and all the supplies needed for class. This fee does not include the cost of a professional hand reflexology session (receipt must be presented at final practical exam). Upon Registration payment must be paid in full to secure your seat.

    Purpose

    The objectives of this training are for students to:

    • Learn to map the body to the hand;

    • Learn how to stimulate the various reflexes on the hand for a safe, effective therapeutic treatment.

    Course Outline

    The History and Theory of Reflexology

    Covers a historical and theoretical overview and background to Reflexology, the healing crisis and how it affects the client and the healing process, structure and function of the hand, how and why it works, zone and neural pathways of the body and terminology.

    Structure and Function of the Hand

    Covers identification of hand and nail observations, conditions, and assessments of the hand.

    Completing a Hand Reflexology Case Study

    Covers the client/therapist interview process, review reasons for completing of a Health Record as well as documenting a session on a Treatment Record.

    Anatomy and Physiology

    This is not covered in class except for the location of the reflexes and referral to conditions and their reflexes. Please refer to your pre-requisite foundation course, Professional Core + Foot Reflexology Certification Program, for additional information on basic anatomy and physiology completed within that curriculum.

    Key Areas of Emphasis for Specific Conditions in Reflexology

    Introduces the student to an explanation and breakdown of each condition and the related systems and reflexes commonly affected within each condition.

    RAC® Approved Reflexology Method (following National and International standards)

    Covers treatment guidelines including providing a healing environment and hygienic practice, what to do before and after a session, a full hand reflexology procedure including method, pacing and technique.

    Home Study

    Home study guides the student through the course material. Each student must complete the Home Study Workbook and submit it for review at the time of the theoretical exam. Once completed and reviewed, the student is accredited 15 hours of home study.

    Mandatory Review

    There is a 2-hour mandatory review given by the teacher halfway through the practicum. The goal is for the teacher and students to come together to review and evaluate the student’s case studies and session protocol. Each student must come prepared to present one case study with a minimum of 6 case sessions and a minimum of 10-recorded treatments. Either the student or the teacher may request additional reviews. Outside of the scheduled mandatory review, there will be an additional $200.00 rescheduling fee.

    ***When a student has successfully completed the review and 10 case study sessions, she/he will be allowed to charge a maximum of $20.00 for each of the remaining 40 treatments.

    *****It is NOT RECOMMENDED that students charge or collect compensation in any form for their practicum treatments without student liability insurance.

    Practicum

    The practicum is a time for students to perfect the protocol associated with the practice of Hand Reflexology. Students must find their own clients and complete 50 treatments in a Case Study context (health records, treatment records and assessment documentation). The practicum must include a minimum of 5 clients. Each client must have a minimum of 6 sessions to be accepted. Case studies must be submitted for review at the time of the practical exam. Once completed and reviewed, the student is accredited 100 practicum hours.

    Exams

    The Exam Preparation chapter in the manual covers suggestions on how to help prepare for both the theoretical and practical exams. The 1.5 - hour theoretical exam must be completed within 3 months of the last day of class. The Home Study Workbook must be completed and submitted to the teacher at the time of the theoretical exam. Students must be members in good standing before the exam may be administered.

    The 1.5 - hour practical exam must be completed within 1 year of the last day of class. (Extensions are available for an additional fee of $100.00.) The practical component of 50 treatments must be submitted to the examiner at the time of the exam. All students must have completed the mandatory review, have a professional treatment by a RAC® certified member or teacher (at the rate charged by the member or teacher) and be a member in good standing before the exam may be administered. Passing grade for all exams is 80%. It is possible to register for an exam redo. Retaking of exams when the 80% passing grade is not achieved: Course fees include one attempt to pass each exam. If an exam requires to be retaken there will be a fee of $325.00 per exam. Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be credited with 142 course hours, will receive a transcript of their marks, will be awarded an embossed certificate. Although optional, it is recommended that you become a RAC® Member and apply for Liability Insurance once you begin your case studies.
